City College Plymouth is delighted to be hosting its first employer event of 2021 when it will bring together defence, engineering, marine and built environment industry professionals.
Slippers are not only welcome but encouraged for those attending this virtual event, which boasts an exciting line-up of speakers including a former Chairman of the Education Select Committee and a Navy defence expert.
Taking place on Friday 26 March, the conference will feature insightful talks and presentations around the theme “insoluble problems disguised as great opportunities”, and will encourage members of these industries to engage in conversations about how to recover from possible challenges that arise as a result of Brexit, COVID-19 and the skills gap.
Pauline Hands, Director of Marketing, Business Engagement and Apprenticeships, said: “We are delighted to be offering this opportunity to our fantastic employer partners who are part of these hugely valuable industries.
“COVID-19 restrictions mean we have to host this event on Zoom rather than in person, and whilst we appreciate a virtual event is never quite the same as the real thing, we are immensely pleased with the quality of speakers who will be taking part.
“This isn’t ‘just another sales event’ at a time when many are feeling the pinch. The College cares deeply about the future of these industries, and whilst employers will get to hear about some of the developments to both our curriculum and about our new facility at Oceansgate, this event is more about having those conversations that we cannot put off any longer.”
Speakers at the conference include: education consultant and former Chairman of the Education Select Committee, Neil Carmichael; military defence expert, Dr Michael Green; Richard May, who is Head of the Oceansgate Project; and Lindsey Hall, Real Ideas CEO. Facilitating this event will be the Chairman of Plymouth's Employment Skills Board, Steve Cardew, who is also the Non-Executive Chairman of the Board at Kawasaki Precision Machinery.
The line-up also includes City College Plymouth Principal and CEO, Jackie Grubb, and Lance Chatfield, Higher Technology Skills Academy Manager.
