On Course South West, Plymouth City Council’s Adult Learning provider is delighted to announce that following a successful application to the Apprenticeship Provider and Assessment Register, the local authority will commence delivering apprenticeships. The training and skills landscape is changing and as a key employer in the city they believe they have the critical skills needed to address this.
Their initial focus will be on:
- Youth Work
- Early Years
- Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
The programme will continue to increase the numbers of city-wide supported internships placements, with a new focus on supported apprenticeships to create new pathways for SEND young people.
Plymouth City Council is committed to advancing skills development and economic growth and are keen to place apprenticeships at the heart of internal and externally facing strategies. This approach will enhance existing local provision and opportunities to address unmet needs. The programme from On Course South West aligns with 'The Plymouth Plan', 'Skills for Plymouth', and the Devon and Somerset Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP), underlining the holistic approach to workforce development. They are confident that this initiative will make a significant difference in Plymouth, providing high-quality apprenticeship training addressing gaps in provision and aligning with the city's broader strategic goals.
