Wimbledon on the Big Screen, proudly sponsored by Vospers, returns to Plymouth City Centre this summer, offering a unique combination of world-class tennis and the chance to experience one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports.
The Plymouth City Centre Company has teamed up with Padel United UK to bring Padel, a hybrid of tennis and squash, to The Piazza alongside the screening of the Wimbledon Championships from 30 June to 13 July.
Padel United UK, alongside Plymouth Marjon University will build a full-size enclosed padel court at the Sundial end of The Piazza. There will be demonstrations from leading UK padel players.
At the other end of The Piazza, every Wimbledon match will be shown on a state-of-the-art mobile screen in a specially designed enclosure with 200 deckchairs, providing an inviting space for visitors to enjoy the tournament atmosphere.
Steve Hughes, chief executive of the Plymouth City Centre Company, said: “It is part of our mission to make Plymouth City Centre one of the most vibrant city centres in the UK and we hope this new event for 2025 will attract thousands of extra visitors and residents into the city centre and become an annual fixture in our events programme.”
This event is expected to deliver significant benefits for businesses in Plymouth city centre. With footfall figures in the area typically reaching 100,000 per week in June and July, the Wimbledon event is projected to increase visitor numbers by 10–15%, depending on weather conditions. The influx of local residents, visitors, sports fans, and shoppers creates a prime opportunity for businesses to engage new customers, increase sales, and build brand awareness.
A variety of trader pitches, sponsorships, and advertising opportunities are available, allowing businesses to showcase their products and services directly to a diverse audience. Sponsorship packages include on-screen advertising, activation pitches, branding opportunities, and inclusion in digital and print marketing campaigns. There are also banner and digital advertising opportunities.
